The E30 M3 was a race car first and a road car second. It was built so BMW could compete in Group A touring car racing, and every flared arch, the raised rear deck and the wing were there for one reason: to win.

It did. Roberto Ravaglia drove one to the drivers' title in the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, and the M3 went on to win titles across Europe and around the world, earning a reputation as one of the greatest touring cars ever built.

On the road, its high-revving four-cylinder and razor-sharp chassis set the template for every sports sedan that followed. Values have climbed ever since, and clean examples are now true collector cars.

Part of the Icons in Motion collection: a tribute to the cars whose design, engineering and character left a lasting mark on automotive culture.
